Without MSN Messenger, there would be no Grammy-nominated Charli XCX

LOS ANGELES — What's in a name? For Charli XCX, born Charlotte Emma Aitchison, it means everything to her music career that has risen enormously in the past year on the heels of her "Fancy" collaboration with Iggy Azalea and a critically acclaimed third album.

The stage name derived from her MSN Messenger screen name "XCX," which stood for "kiss, Charli, kiss." She emblazoned flyers with "Charli XCX" for a show when she was a teenager. Now 22, she told Mashable that her new screen name would be "Cyber Spice or Cyber Spice Chic," a fitting choice since she grew up listening to the Spice Girls. Read more...
